Top 7 Campus Laptops

If you're heading back to school soon, you might want to purchase or upgrade your laptop. Now, when picking a laptop for school, you might be tempted to get the best-looking design or buying what your friends buy. Don't do that - try to find something that's suited for your needs. In this article, we do a quick review of the top 7 campus laptops out in the market.

Overview

Before we look at the top 7 campus laptops, we should think about the features we would want in a 'campus laptop'. Now, if you're using the laptop for word processing, simple surfing or email, don't get too caught up with processor models and 3D gaming cards. However, I'd recommend that you definitely go for at least 2 GB of RAM and a solid, long-lasting battery though.

The other thing that is an absolute must is multiple USB ports, as well as built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet. You'll usually also want to make sure a basic warranty is in place for the laptop (no need to buy extended warranties though). So without further ado, let's look at the top 7 campus laptops (in my opinion) that are in the market now.

1. Fujitsu LifeBook P7230

The Fujitsu LifeBook P7230 is a powerful machine for campus students that’s hard to ignore. I find that it has a solid build, with a sleek design that combines looks with computing power. Certainly something you can think about if you want something to carry around, be proud of and yet still able to use it for studies.

2. Gateway T-6828

One of the cheapest laptops in this roundup, the Gateway T-6828 has very good performance numbers and a solid two-year warranty. The unit is not exactly very well-designed though - so if you want a sleek and sexy laptop, then you should look elsewhere.

3. Apple MacBook 13-inch (Penryn)

The Apple MacBook 13-inch (Penryn) is a stylish number which is a hot favorite among novice users and students. You get a outstanding support network (there are heck of a LOT of Apple MacBook users out there) and an amazing software bundle. I am pretty sure this Apple MacBook is a hit with campus laptop users.

4. Lenovo ThinkPad X61

The Lenovo ThinkPad X61 is my own personal laptop computer. It works great and is an ultraportable suited for campus students. An ultraportable laptop is one which weighs very little but has powerful computing power. You have to pay a slight premium in price, but I think its worth every single cent. This is a solid laptop that can be used by students in any faculty or discipline.

5. Dell Studio 15

The Dell Studio 15 provides the user with ton of features and performance options. You will appreciate the design based on Dell's best-selling XPS series. Performance and price-wise, this is another good laptop deal which is hard to beat.

6. The Toshiba Portege R500-S5001X

Toshiba was the first company to produce an extremely thin laptop and it continues to shine with this model which includes an integrated DVD burner. If you're in the market for a thin and portable campus laptop, the Toshiba Protege R500 should be on your shopping list as well.

7. Sony VAIO VGN-SZ750N/C

The Sony VAIO VGN-SZ750N/C is a thin and light campus laptop. It provides a huge 250MB hard drive, the new Intel Core 2 Duo processor, a wireless wide area networking and uninterrupted connectivity from anywhere in the world. On the whole, I'd recommend it as a good buy.

Conclusion

Well, I hope this article has helped you understand the top 7 campus laptops out in the market. This list is by no means exhaustive - if you do have good models to add to the list, do let me know. So until next time, good luck and happy laptop shopping!
