1. Overview Let’s first look at the basics. The HP HDX18t comes with an Intel Core 2 Duo T9600, 2.8 GHz processor, 4 GB RAM and a gigantic 480 GB hard drive. Those specifications would satisfy even the most power hungry of laptop users.
One thing I felt about the HP HDX18t was that might just be a bit too powerful (and pricey) for the average home user – but if you have a bit more cash, it is something you’d want to consider. 2. Design The design of the HP HDX18t is pretty unique. It weighs in at 8.5 pounds, which makes it a little lighter than one of its competitors, the Acer Aspire 8920G. If you look closely at the chassis, you’ll see that the inlaid pattern resembles scribbles. 3. Display The HP HDX18t has a really big screen. And I mean really big. If you look at the 18.4 inch widescreen with 16:9 screen format, you’ll feel you’re almost looking at a laptop screen. The nVidia GeForce 8600M GT powering the graphics engine makes the images even more vivid and contrasting. In a word – the HP HDX18t is a very good gaming machine – you will spend many hours playing games like Call of Duty or Fallout 3 on it.
The HP HDX18t has very good controls. In particular, the numeric keypad comes along with a superb keyboard. The mouse buttons are silent and easy to press, not like those you find in cheapo laptops. And with two 160GB drives spinning at 7,200 rpm plus a set of great audio speakers – what more could you ask for? 5. Ports and Connections An internal ATSC TV tuner, a Blu-ray burner. A HDMI-out port, an eSATA port, three USB ports, and a memory card reader. Yes, those components are all part of the standard configuration in the HP HDX18t. If those items haven’t got you salivating over it yet, then I don’t know what will. 6. Battery Life According to tests, the HP HDX18t runs for about 2 hours 48 minutes before requiring a recharge. This is a long duration given the immense multimedia stuff it is usually doing. Of course, I suspect in future versions, HP will realize even long lasting batteries. 7. Shortcomings The only complaint I have about the HP HDX18t? Well, I mentioned it earlier – it is definitely a bit pricey at $2000. If you want a no frills laptop, then go with a Dell or Toshiba. This model is for the home user who has some extra bucks to spend. Conclusion With its 18.4 inch screen, amazing performance and multimedia capabilities, the HP HDX18t is definitely the ultimate in high-end laptop computing right now. If you have the cash and want a very good laptop, then this model is hard to beat.
